Business Communication

Alongside with the numerous technical skills that I have learned while at the University of Louisville, I have also gained some knowledge into the business world and how IT goes hand-in-hand with the goals of the business. In this section I will display how I have learned to communicate in a professional, and effective manner throughout my time at UofL.
Business Case Study
Here, in this first example, I write up a case study for a company named Webvan. In the case study write up, I first present the problem that Webvan is facing, followed by an ICA (Industrial Competitive Analysis). Within the ICA, I discuss Webvan’s reason for being (mission statement, a competitive analysis using Porter’s 5 forces, and a description of Webvan’s organizational structure. Following the ICA, I discuss who the major stakeholders for Webvan are, followed by potential alternatives to Webvan’s problem discussed at the beginning. Finally I discuss how each alternative affects each stakeholder, and make a decision based off these alternatives.
Business Scenario Assessment
In this example, I was assigned to create an excel sheet to help an investment firm to decide whether they should invest in a fracking organization. To help the firm make the correct decision, I created income and cash flow statements within the excel sheet, that displayed the ROI as well. Using this information, as well as the Scenario Summary utility within excel, I was able to conclude the best investment for the firm among 8 different investment amounts.
Business Ethics
Sometimes business decision making can come hand-in-hand with morals and ethics. Here in this example, I must analyze whether a company named Toysmart should their customer information in order to avoid bankruptcy. I analyze the decision from two different theological views: a teleological perspective, and a deontological  perspective. The deontological view focuses on the good for the most amount of people, while the teleological view focuses on the end goal, or result.
Business Email
Communications to people in the business world can sometimes be tough, and notifying applicants that they did not receive the job is definitely one of those times. In this example, I act as a hiring manager and have to notify someone that I interviewed that they did not get the job.
